How to tell when you should worry

Section: Module Overview

If you can anticipate frost and other ground icing conditions, you can take steps to protect your aircraft from contamination, and/or plan ahead for de/anti-icing needs. Anticipating contamination and taking proactive steps can save you time, effort and money.

Discuss the situation and brief your plan of action with the others involved, e.g., passengers, a chief pilot or freight recipients. This may foster understanding and help reduce your stress.

In this module, we will provide tools to help you anticipate ground icing by examining the meteorological conditions and other factors that can generate ground icing. We’ll also discuss finding contamination during the walk-around.
