Use the decision tree on the next page to help you review what you have learned about ground icing.
Try to imagine that you are planning a trip and must actually make a ground de/anti-icing decision.
If you aren’t sure what a step entails or how to answer one of the questions, click on the “How do I know?” button to obtain more information
This decision tree, as well as the Ground Icing Checklists, can be downloaded (PDF) later in this section or from the Resources section on the home page of this web site.
Select the appropriate answer for your aircraft or situation. New questions will appear based on your answer. Continue answering questions until you reach a "go" or "no-go" decision for your flight. Click or tap the "How do I know" buttons along the way for further information.
*If you prefer, a graphic version of the "Decision Making Flow Chart" is available for download on the following page.
The following documents have been provided in PDF format for download and print. Feel free to laminate and take them with you.
Decision Making Flow Chart (PDF)
Download the Flow Chart from the previous page. You will also download all the questions and answers for reference. Use it as a Go/No-Go decision making tool.
Ground Icing Checklists (PDF)
